Helping Customers in a Time of Need

The energy crisis of 2022 has had a significant impact on individuals and businesses. Rising energy prices have forced entrepreneurs to close their businesses and incur debt. At the same time, global warming caused by rising CO2 levels has become a pressing issue. In this time of need, saving energy consumption and becoming more sustainable is crucial.

Vattenfall wanted to address these issues and support its customers in doing the same by providing personalized insights and relevant tips based on each customer's living situation, needs, and budget. The leading energy company also wanted to empower customers with the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions about their energy consumption, and to support each customer in finding the best next action to move step-by-step toward a sustainable future.

Tailored Solutions for Sustainable Living

To ensure each customer received the most effective support based on their specific living situation, Vattenfall needed to gather customer-specific data and provide tailored solutions. Working with Xebia, the energy company adopted a data-driven approach to deliver customized insights and tips through a data product.

To successfully create this data product, Vattenfall needed cross-functional collaboration between its teams from start to finish. Under Xebia's guidance and facilitation, the company established teams that included analytics translators, data scientists, back-end, and front-end developers who collaborated seamlessly to develop a comprehensive, end-to-end data product.

Outcomes

Vattenfall successfully launched a data product in its app, reaching over 500,000 monthly users. The product offers personalized insights into energy consumption and empowers customers to take steps towards sustainable living. Creating the data product also led to an improved way of working, with cross-functional teams collaborating more effectively and efficiently.

The deployment of the data product has contributed to decreased CO2 emissions, increased sales, and higher engagement with app features. Additionally, the project received the Data-Driven Marketing Association's Customer Data Award in the Data Challenger category in 2022. The data product also resulted in increased sales of sustainable products, improved customer engagement, and increased visibility of sustainable tips.
